What Airports are There in Alaska?

Alaska is one of the biggest and least populated states in the U.S., with many cities that don’t have roads leading to them. As a result, the only two means to get to them are via plane or ship. For this reason, Alaska appears to be the state with the most airports per capita in the country. Almost every town in the state has at least one airport.

There are 282 public and 288 private airports in the state. Those located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau cities are the largest airports in Alaska. In total, they host around 3.6 million passengers every year. There are three commercial service airports in Anchorage since it’s the largest city in the state.

Alaska has three international airports: Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC), Juneau International Airport (JNU), and Ketchikan International Airport (KTN). ANC is the state’s busiest airport, serving over 2.5 million people per year. Its on-time arrival performance is significantly better than the average in the U.S. (85.19% in comparison with 79.99%). The on-time departure performance is also excellent, at 91.08% compared to the 81.56% average in the state. The smallest one on the Alaska airports map is Marshall Don Hunter Sr. Airport (MLL), with approximately 3 thousand passengers per year.

ll state’s airports have around 4.9 million visitors per year, adding 0.58% to the total air traffic of the United States. All Alaska airports code can be found.
