Welcome to the Philadelphia international airport in the United States! It is located in the state of Pennsylvania and is the largest airport in the metropolitan area of the same name around Philadelphia. The distance from downtown Philadelphia to the airport is only 11 kilometers to the Southeast. Philadelphia airport is also easily accessible from the cities of Baltimore and Pittsburgh. It is also located near New York City and Washington D.C. on the east coast of the United States. Philadelphia airport was opened in 1940. It now has seven Terminals and two runways. The airlines are permanently assigned to their Terminals. Every year, Philadelphia airport handles about 32 million passengers, handles 540,000 tons of air freight, and registers about 500,000 aircraft movements. In the ranking of the busiest airports in the world, the airport in Philadelphia is ranked ninth. However, most flights from Philadelphia are domestic flights. Just under a sixth of the passengers, about 4.5 million, fly from Philadelphia to an international destination. Accordingly, the main destinations are major airports in the United States of America. These include Denver, Houston, Chicago, San Francisco or Los Angeles. The international destinations are usually located on the American continent or in Europe. Philadelphia airport is primarily used by major national airlines such as Delta Airlines and US Airways. Large European airlines such as Air France, British Airways or Lufthansa also land there.
